Riding along coast, rocks and towns

Agency: Incom Travel

Docking at Durres Harbour you climb into the saddle of your motorbike starting a fascinating tour of Albanian coast. Durrës was the most important Adriatic Harbour under the Romans. Then you head for Lushnje, founded by a turkish widow called Salushe, as the story tells, and temporary capital of Albania. 3 Km far from Lushnje you will find Savra: the first Albanian-Turkish battle field (1385). You reach for Fier rounded by 3 national archeological sites, such as Apollonia (a few km far from the sea you will find a small Athens), Bylis and Ardenices (famous for the Byzantine monastery). Berat, known as open-air city museum, is worth a visit. Going through Vlorë and Orikim you reach for Himare, well-known for hosting one of the first Albanian schools under the Ottoman control. Sarande is the next stop. From here three excursions have not to be missed: Lekures castle (overlooking Sarande and Ksamil Island), the “blue eye” (karstic water source) and Ksamil Island (rocky with mediterranean vegetation). You cross the Greek border to reach for Kalampaka, starting place to visit the famous “Meteore”, and on the way back Ioannina, well-known for the typical Greek cheese, feta.
